MARC B GUERIN 

 BCL BL MB BCh BAO LRCP&SI MD MRCOphth FRCSI (Ophth) DHealth Econ (NUI)

 

Mr Guerin is a consultant eye surgeon at the Mater University and Private Hospitals, Dublin.  His main areas of expertise are cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, laser eye surgery and anterior segment surgery/disease. 

 

He attained his medical degree with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MB BCh BAO LRCP&SI) in 2002. While studying medicine, Mr. Guerin also studied law at the Honourable Society of Kings Inns, Dublin and graduated as a Barrister- at- law (BL) with honours in 2000. He is the only person to simultaneously study law at Kings Inns and medicine, and retains a significant academic interest in medical law. He has also completed an honours degree in Civil Law (BCL) in University College Cork and a diploma in Health Economics from the National University of Ireland.  

Prior to commencing his training in ophthalmic surgery, Mr. Guerin received his academic Doctorate from University College, Dublin for his full time research in glaucoma eye disease. This body of work has resulted in international and national prizes, awards and  publications, and he has lectured worldwide on his findings.

 

Having commenced his ophthalmology training in Ireland, Mr. Guerin was the only person in Ireland to be accepted onto the National Higher Surgical Training Scheme for Ophthalmic Surgery in 2009. At the end of his surgical training in Ireland, he received his Certificate of Completion of Surgical Training (CCST), indicating proficiency in all aspects of ophthalmic medicine and surgery. He has further been awarded Membership to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Ophthalmology).  

He has completed international advanced surgical and eye laser training and was accepted onto the prestigious Corneal and Anterior Segment program at Moorfields Eye Hospital London in 2012. At Moorfields, Mr Guerin completed a Fellowship specialising in cataract, cornea, eye laser surgery, keratoconus and anterior segment eye surgery.  Prior to this, he also completed a fellowship in Refractive Eye Laser and Cataract Surgery in the Mater Misericordiae University and Private Hospitals, Dublin. 

 

Mr Guerin is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI Ophth), a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London (MRCOphth), and a member of the Irish College of Ophthalmology (ICO). He is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS). Mr. Guerin has sat on the council and  Public Affairs Committee of the Irish College of Ophthalmology.
